Dr. John Higginbotham is the
Disaster Chairman of the Madison County Medical Society
and the Medical Director of the Metropolitan Medical
Response Systems (MMR). The MMR is a division
of Homeland Security. He recently was the closing
speaker at the Kick Off meeting of the Medical Reserve
Corps in Madison County. Members of the Reserve
Corps listened to Dr. Williamson, the State Health Officer
of Alabama, as well as other speakers discuss the challenge
of reacting to a critical incident (ex. pets, stress
management, strategic national stockpile, personal and
family preparedness).
SportsMED’s radiology department
has received the American College of Radiology (ACR) accreditation
seal for our MRI. Only 3 other facilities in Madison County
have received this accreditation. SportsMED voluntarily
went through a rigorous review process to be sure it meets
nationally accepted standards. The ACR accreditation
seal means our personnel are well qualified, through education
and certification, to perform and interpret your medical
images and administer your radiation therapy treatments. The
equipment is appropriate for the test you will receive,
and the facility meets or exceeds quality assurance and
safety guidelines. SportsMED’s MRI machine
is located in the Huntsville clinic. For more information
about the ACR accreditation go to www.acr.org.
Jeffrey Summerhill, SportsMED’s
Orthopaedic Technologist,
has won a free registration to the National Association
of Orthopaedic Technologists (NAOT) 2008 conference June
27-30, in Minneapolis, MN. NAOT is dedicated to the
pursuit of excellence through the continued educational
development of orthopaedic ailled health care professionals
who specialize in casting, splinting and bracing. For more
information about this conference go to www.naot.org.
