Joint Replacement
Normal activities such as walking, golfing, tennis, gardening,
and playing with children are just a dream to many people
suffering from arthritis, musculo-skeletal disease, or joint
injury. For these patients, joint replacement may be the
only alternative to chronic and debilitating pain. These
operations are performed when other measures have failed
to help patients relieve their pain and restore mobility.
Before surgery is recommended, other more conservative
measures should be tried, such as weight loss, anti-inflammatory
medication, orthotics, steroid injections, and physical
therapy. If, despite these efforts, functional limitations
persist, the capable physicians at SportsMed can help restore
a more active, pain-free, and independent lifestyle.
Dr. Black has
a special interest in adult reconstructive surgery of the
upper extremity, hip and lower extremity in adults utilizing
arthroscopic, open and joint replacement surgery, as indicated.
While maintaining an active sports medicine practice with
younger patients, Dr.
Alexander also welcomes the opportunity to help the
more mature athlete and elderly patients return to as
active a lifestyle as possible.
