Physiatry (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation)
In keeping with SportsMed’s commitment to assure
optimal patient care, Dr.
Powell-Stoddart has joined the physician staff of
SportsMed as a specialist in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Physiatry is a relatively new medical specialty in which
the physician is trained to diagnose, treat, and direct
a rehabilitation plan that provides the best possible
outcome for patients. Dr. Powell-Stoddart not only employs
the usual tools of medicine, but also uses physical agents
and therapeutic exercise in the prevention, diagnosis,
treatment and rehabilitation of disorders that produce
pain, impairment and disability. Patients also seek
treatment from physiatrists for musculoskeletal pain
syndromes.
